Why is one allowed to live? Because, Nick explains, the case isn’t airtight without the testimony, and if they lose, both men walk free. Nick arranges a plea bargain: One of the guilty men will be executed, and the other, in return for his testimony, will get a murder conviction but not death.Ĭlyde can’t believe this. He begins the film as a loving husband and father, but then his wife and daughter are savagely murdered. Jamie Foxx stars as Nick, the Philadelphia district attorney, and Gerard Butler is Clyde, the ingenious killer.

So the story is a locked-room mystery: How does he set up such elaborate kills? Does he have an accomplice outside the walls, or what?
#Law abiding citizen movie review serial#
Gary Gray delivered his thundering action flick since "Set It Off" and "The Italian Job.“Law-Abiding Citizen” is a taut thriller about a serial killer in reverse: He’s already in prison when he commits all but one of his many murders, and in solitary for most of that time. But despite it's crappy and anti-climax ending, director F. The ending I also feel was VERY unexpected I expected Clyde to win in the end, so the ending was the worse of the movie.

I feel he that a was big mistake to accept a plea deal from Darby in the first place. But I think Foxx's role was pretty mediocre. Gerard's role in this knocks "300" out of the ballpark and goes from gladiator to avenger. Law Abiding Citizen has many twists and turns, violence and gore, and legal maneuvers to get you on the edge of your seat. Throughout the movie Clyde uses his wits, high tech weaponry, and his deadly threats to intimidate Nick in his mission "against a corrupt justice system" and will kill anyone who gets in his way. 10 years later Clyde is ready to execute his mission for revenge. Clyde who devastated by this vows to take matters into his own hands. Nick accepts a plea deal from Darby and Ames ends up heading to death row despite him not killing anyone. Clyde who is promised by Nick that his family's killers Rupert Ames and Clarence Darby will be brought to justice comes short lived. Jamie Foxx plays Nicholas Rice an ambitious Philadelphia prosecutor with a strong conviction record and no losses. Gerard plays Clyde Shelton a former CIA assassination contractor who in horror, watches both his wife and daughter brutally murdered in a violent home invasion. Gerard Butler delivers a iron fist of justice in this deadly cat and mouse flick. But first, take some Dramamine-and maybe some Pepto Bismol. Watch and enjoy, even though afterward, you'll feel manipulated. This is too ingenious of a thriller to pander to slasher fans.

But I have to take issue with the stomach-turning gore. Plus, the fiendishly clever plot is enthralling. Not long into the movie, any sympathy we feel about the loss of his family is near-forgotten.īutler's performance in this movie is stunning, and Foxx is impressive as the hapless lawman. Sheldon is a devious and brilliant strategist. How does Shelton do it? The movie gleefully teases us with that mystery.Ĭlearly the two goons who did the home invasion picked the wrong guy. We understand that the ultimate intended victim will likely be prosecutor Rice. But once he's incarcerated, the killings of anyone even peripherally involved with the case continue. Having done that, he willingly turns himself in. Then, Shelton, furious that the other killer got off so easy, exacts his gory revenge on him after he's paroled. We eventually learn that Shelton managed to manipulate the chemicals used in the lethal injection. But the execution is badly botched and turns into a torture scene. The perps are caught and indicted, but since one of them needs to testify against the other, prosecutor Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) gives the snitch a short sentence while the other bad guy gets the death penalty. Gerard Butler plays Clyde Shelton, a Philadelphia engineer and family man who witnesses two men slaughtering his wife and young daughter in a home invasion. Unnecessarily and gruesomely violent, "Law Abiding Citizen" shamelessly plays with our heads because, even though we can't condone the killer's actions, we understand his need for revenge.
